A surface planer which is a perfect fit for your workshop.

The T54 surface planer was mainly developed to accomplish two tasks – (a) to dress workpieces perfectly and (b) to provide these workpieces with angular edges quickly and safely. This is because you only arrive at the perfect end result with perfect preparation. The easy-running guided surfacing fence with integrated auxiliary fence enables quick and precise working. The ball-bearing guided jointing fence runs smoothly and without tilting on tempered raceways – as precisely for many years to come as it does on the very first day. Chamfers can also be planed in a flash, because any angle between 90° and 45° can be set quickly with the user-friendly one hand operation.

Operation

The operation of the T54 is as simple as it is effective. Irrespective of whether you set the depth of cut or switch the machine on or off, everything is in one place and easily accessible. You also reach the hollow / pointed joint adjustment from here, the scale shows you the setting.

TERSA solid steel cutter block

The TERSA solid steel cutter block Z2 on the T54 offers many practical advantages: The high running smoothness in the precision bearings and the exact positioning of the form-locked reversible blades result in an extremely accurate cutting circle – and thus the best conditions for cleanly planed surfaces. The TERSA reversible blades are available in four different qualities, i.e. for all tasks, and the cutter block can also be supplied as a Z4 cutter block on request. Changing the blades takes less than a minute per blade.

Jointing fence

The ball-bearing guided jointing fence runs smoothly and without tilting on tempered raceways – as precisely for many years to come as it does on the very first day. Chamfers can also be planed in a flash, because any angle between 90° and 45° can be set quickly with the user-friendly one hand operation. The integrated auxiliary fence which makes the processing of narrower workpieces considerably safer is worth mentioning.

Composite frame

The machine frame of the T54 is a sturdy and thick-walled composite structure whose design can only be found with this degree of technical perfection in MARTIN machines. Otto Martin invented this method of construction in the 1920s and had it registered as a design patent back then. Today, after more than 90 years of continual improvement, MARTIN still uses this simple and effective principle of frame construction. The intelligent combination of steel and concrete creates a high quality machine frame which is unparalleled when it comes to stability, absorbing capacity and torsion resistance. The vibrations which occur in any planer are absorbed many times more effectively than in cast-iron or even welded frames. This frame is the perfect basis for perfect work!

Controls and Features

Xplane solid steel cutter block

The new 3-row Xplane cutter block from MARTIN impresses even when idling with remarkably smooth running. This impression is reinforced as soon as the block is engaged, as the block operates extremely quietly. Even the biggest depths of cut require a surprisingly low motor rating – another advantage. However, the surface quality which can be achieved with the Xplane, even on difficult woods, is really breathtaking.

This option moves the operating controls attached to the infeed table as standard above the table level. The depth of cut is digitally displayed and precisely set by turning knob. The hollow / pointed joint display is also very clear and easy to survey. That’s good for anyone who likes to have the most important thing in sight. If you move the jointing fence over the table, the control panel moves along with it and is therefore always within easy reach.

SUVAMATIC guard

The “SUVAMATIC” guard protects the entire planing area with a single cutter block guard. The folding infeed beak is very practical. This generates a slight contact pressure of the cutter block guard against the joining stop, depending on the setting. This promotes the joining quality considerably.

Auxiliary fence

The standard auxiliary fence is already integrated in the surfacing fence, in order to guide small, narrow workpieces safely over the machine table. This is an important contribution to improving health and safety.

If the rear section of the cutter block is equipped with 100 mm long carbide blades, edges of coated chipboards can also be joined tear-free. However, normal dressing and joining is possible in the front section of the block (410 mm). If the complete planing width is required, the blades are exchanged in seconds thanks to the TERSA principle. It goes without saying that other blade lengths and qualities can also be combined.

T45 and T54: Two singles – a perfect couple

You encounter two specialists which complement each other to perfection with the T54 surface planer and the T45 planer. Each of the machines is designed for its task without any compromises and provides optimum work results. The required machine is immediately available without time-consuming conversions and the two machines together take up hardly any more space than a combination machine thanks to the space-saving set-up. In contrast to a combination machine, both machines can also be operated in parallel without any restrictions – even by one person through optimum handling and the short distances.

The TERSA solid steel cutterblock with 4 blades provides the best surfaces especially when processing hard materials. A quick and easy change between Z4 and Z2 component parts is possible through the systematic use of dummy blades. The blade can be changed in a matter of seconds thanks to TERSA. Four blade qualities are available. The T45 planer is equipped with a 4-blade block as standard. This an option in the T54 surface planer.
